Tankless Water Heater Maintenance in the Bay Area

Annual Descaling. Efficiency Maintained. Warranty Protected.

What We Do

Annual Tankless Water Heater Service — Required, Not Optional

Bay Area water averages 7 to 19 GPG hardness. That mineral load coats the inside of your tankless heat exchanger every time hot water runs. Without annual descaling, efficiency drops, output pressure falls, and the unit starts throwing error codes.

JetPipe Plumbing provides full annual maintenance for gas tankless water heaters — descaling, filter cleaning, condensate drain inspection, and a complete system check. We service Navien, Rinnai, Noritz, Rheem, A.O. Smith, and other gas tankless brands.

Descaling / Vinegar Flush

Removes mineral scale from the heat exchanger — the most critical maintenance task for any tankless unit in hard water.

Inlet Filter Cleaning

Clogged inlet filters reduce flow and cause temperature fluctuations. Cleaned on every visit.

Condensate Drain Inspection

Condensing units produce acidic condensate. We check the drain line is clear and properly routed.

Gas Supply and Connection Check

We verify gas pressure and inspect connections for any signs of deterioration.

Venting Inspection

Blocked or deteriorating venting is a safety issue. Checked on every service visit.

What Happens If You Skip Annual Descaling

Skipping maintenance on a gas tankless unit in the Bay Area is one of the most common causes of premature failure we see. Here is a typical progression:

Year Without Service

Year 1-2
Year 2-3
Year 3-4
Year 4+

What Builds Up

Light scale on heat exchanger surfaces
Moderate scale buildup
Connect gas or electrical supply
Heavy scale restricting flow

Why It Matters

Slight efficiency reduction — often unnoticed
Longer heat-up times, occasional temperature fluctuations
Low pressure, error codes, unit cycling on/off
Permanent efficiency loss, heat exchanger damage

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a gas tankless water heater be descaled?

Annually in the Bay Area. Hard water (7-19 GPG) deposits scale faster than in softer water regions. Some areas — particularly those served by Cal Water — may benefit from more frequent service.

We connect a pump and circulate a diluted descaling solution (typically food-grade citric acid or white vinegar) through the heat exchanger for 45 to 90 minutes, then flush with clean water. The unit is then tested before we leave.

Homeowners can purchase descaling kits, but professional service includes a full inspection — gas connections, venting, filters, condensate drain — that a DIY flush does not cover. We also carry parts for any issues found during service.

Typically 1.5 to 2 hours for a full service including descaling, filter cleaning, and inspection.

Most do. Navien, Rinnai, and Noritz all recommend annual service. Failing to maintain the unit can void the heat exchanger warranty — often the most expensive component to replace.

Yes. We service Navien, Rinnai, Noritz, Rheem, A.O. Smith, and other gas tankless brands.
